wifi is a technology that is using for high speed internet. wifi range determines the range for wireless systems.
Wireless Internet access using WiFi (802.11) technology is becoming more common. Seattle is pretty good about having plenty of WiFi hotspots, but most of them (especially in bookstores and chain coffee stores) are commercial (e.g. [http://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot/ T-Mobile] or the soon-defunct [http://www.cometanetworks.com/index.shtml Cometa]), and require monthly fees.
