Vancouver, BC is the nearest major city directly north of Seattle, at about the same distance as Portland, Or. One can drive there without leaving I-5 until reaching Canada, then following 99.
Vancouver is one of the largest cities on the West Coast, in Canada or the United States. The incorporated city named "Vancouver" has about 600,000 people, with "Greater Vancouver" totalling just over 2 million, growing at about 1.2% per annum. Other large municipalities are Surrey, south-east of Vancouver (about 400,000), and Burnaby and Richmond, east of Vancouver (each about 200,000).
(There is a smaller Vancouver in southern Washington on the way to Portland.)
