Spam Bots A-Raging

Tis the Christmas season I guess. We're getting a lot of presents from spam-bots. What would it take to limit edits to users that are registered and signed in? Chadlupkes 11:26, 18 Dec 2005 (PST)

Spambots are indeed getting really obnoxious. The fact that they are using the same URLs from different IPs seems to indicate also that they are possible bots on infected computers, although I noticed that a lot of the IP ranges where in Korea or China so maybe we can block entire large subnets. I'm using the MediaWiki SpamBlacklist extension and adding the URLs that appear, but still that doesn't block new spam URLs.
In any case, if possible I don't want to make it so that users have to register to edit, since we get quite a few valuable contributions from time to time from anonymous users that might otherwise not bother registering (even though it's so simple). However if the spamming gets out of hand then maybe we can do that.

What do You think about Replicas and belts as a presents?

I think spam has no place on SeattleWiki. That's what I think. Chadlupkes 15:26, 22 Dec 2005 (PST)
